Success Central to 2010
Looking back to 2009 it was a year of ‘almost there’ for the Monash University Central Netball Club. Going through the season with only a handful of losses, it was with utter dismay that most of those losses occurred in the finals series against none other than arch rivals Hume City Falcons.
Injury played a big part in the late season demise of Monash in 2009, with at one stage four of the starting seven girls carrying injuries on and off the court.
Post 2009 season however, individual rewards and recognitions were plenty for Monash, with six players called up for state duties in the ANL (Australian Netball League), of which the Victorian team took out the competition.
Even immediately after the finals losses coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell described the loss as ‘patches of brilliance and patches of frustration’.
“When we put out a performance that reaches our potential for three of the four quarters, that was the most disappointing thing.”
So there is no question that the talent and performance record is there, all Monash need now is luck on their side going into season 2010.
With at least four Monash students in the squad for 2010, there will be many keen supporters following the progress of Monash University Central.
The pre-season competition starts on 3 February, while the Holden Cruze Cup starts on 3 March. |
