Tennis Hot ShotsAbout the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program About the MLC Tennis Hot Shots programTennis Australia has developed the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program to assist children in developing tennis skills along with a love of tennis. The program enables children who are not yet able to play tennis on a full size court with a regular tennis ball to compete against others at a similar standard whilst having fun. The use of low compression tennis balls, smaller racquets and courts makes it easier for children to start playing tennis in a modified environment. The program is broken down into 3 stages, depending on the childs ability. All new children will be assessed to determine what stage best suits their abilities by the coaching staff. Assessments are also carried out at the end of each term and certificates given to children before progressing to the next level. Red (Stage 1) - Children begin playing on three or six metre courts with red low compression balls (25% less of a regular tennis ball). During this stage children will learn the basic skills of tennis including: serving, perform a volley, rally with a partner for up to 20 shots and learn to co-operate with others in a pair and team environment. Orange (Stage 2) - Children progress to an eight metre wide court with orange, low compression balls (50% less of a regular tennis ball). During this stage children develop more technical skills and their game. Through this, rallying with a partner and using forehands and backhands during this stage. Green (Stage 3) - Children progress to a full size court with green low compression balls (75% less of a regular tennis ball). During this stage the focus is on learning how to serve from the baseline, fine tune their strokes and court positioning, whilst also rallying with a partner. From this stage children are considered to have the skills to play on a full court with a regular ball. Coaching Registration and program datesTerm 1 registrations now closed.
